Chrissi Island, also known as Gaidouronisi, lies approximately 9 nautical miles south of Ierapetra and is a protected Wildlife Refuge. Recognized for its extraordinary natural beauty and unique ecosystem, it is included in the European Natura 2000 initiative.
Visitors can reach the island by boat from Ierapetra in about 50 minutes. Most spend their time at the renowned Belerinina, or Golden Beach, where the rocky shore gradually gives way to soft sand. Many of the trees are over 200 years old, with some reaching heights of 10 meters and ages of 300 years.
